  5.  WHAT THIS IS:
  6.  
  7.  - The 144BBS List is a collection of numbers reported as belonging to US
  8.    BBSes with one or more lines supporting v.32, v.32bis, v.fast class and
  9.    v.34 CONNECTs.
  10.  - 144BBS List is compiled and maintained by Ken Sukimoto, SysOp of the
  11.    DownTown BBS as a service to DownTown BBS subscribers and other callers and
  12.    is published on an irregular basis although we try to have a new release on
  13.    the first of each month.
  14.  - 144BBS List is also available as a comma delimited file for those of you
  15.    using BBS doors for online display and/or in need of info for database
  16.    applications. This file is distributed as 144BBS.DB rather than 144BBS.TXT.

  19.  WHAT THIS ISN'T:
  20.  
  21.  - This is not intended to be an advertising list. With the way BBS's change,
  22.    there is no way I or most anyone else could keep up with software/hardware
  23.    changes, doorways added/deleted, specialties of the BBS and other features
  24.    that make a BBS unique. This would also make 144BBS even larger than it
  25.    currently is and just one more opportunity to be inaccurate.
  26.  - Although it is the goal, 144BBS is not comprehensive. I am quite sure there
  27.    are a lot of BBS's that have been omitted - rather than attempt to guess at
  28.    BBS names/numbers/cities and modem types, I am depending on reliable
  29.    sources to submit these missing BBS's and accurate information about them.

  32.  COPYRIGHT AND DISTRIBUTION:

  34.  - Since the content of 144BBS is for the most part public knowledge, no
  35.    formal copyright for content is applied for.
  36.  - I'm not even sure that the name "144BBS" isn't already copyrighted; if it
  37.    isn't, then that is the only copyright claimed.
  38.  - Rather than legalese and restrictions, I request common courtesy in the
  39.    distribution of 144BBS List.
  40.  - No fee should be charged for 144BBS List other than normal system access
  41.    requirements.

  44.  ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

  46.  - 144BBS List is dedicated to the SysOps who install high speed modems,
  47.    enabling users to access systems at higher and higher speeds. It is also
  48.    dedicated to these same users who motivated the SysOps to install these
  49.    modems through their contributions; material, inspirational and otherwise.
  50.  - Thanks go to the SysOps, Users and Administrators of U'NI Net, SmartNet,
  51.    MajorNet and Intelec for their help and the use of their networks to 
  52.    gather information for this list.

  55.  NAMING CONVENTION & MISCELLANEA:
  56.  
  57.  - When distributing this list, do not rename 144BBS.DB or 144BBS.TXT!
  58.  - Most BBSes don't like unarchived text files, so if archived, name the
  59.    archive "144DB-a#.ext" or "144BBSa#" where:
  60.     a  = alpha designator - A=Jan; B=Feb; C=Mar; L=Dec
  61.     #  = the last number of the year; 1994 = 4, 19955 = 5
  62.    ext = whatever extension the archiving program defaults to.
  63.    The December, 1994 release will be named 144BBSL4.ZIP (using PKZIP to
  64.    archive) as an example of the naming convention.
  65.  - Please note - many systems listed are multi-line or multi-node and their
  66.    inclusion on this list does not mean the number listed has that particular
  67.    setup available. Some BBSes are subscription and reserve the high speed
  68.    lines for subscribers only.
  69.  - The 144BBS archives on The DownTown BBS and those directly uploaded by KEN
  70.    SUKIMOTO are archived using the PKZIP -AV authencity validation option.
  71.    When extracted, the -AV information should display The Downtown BBS
  72.    name and the # AIN871 registration.
  73.  - The DownTown BBS is currently a 6 line MajorBBS system with access on your
  74.    first call to download 144BBS. See the file 144PICK.UP for the procedure.

  95.  ERRORS & ADDITIONS:

  97.  - If you should find a number on the list that is NOT a modem number, please
  98.    notify the DownTown BBS so it can be noted & removed from the next release.
  99.  - If there is an error or if a BBS updates/modifies modem[s], please contact
  100.    the DownTown BBS.
  101.  - If you are a SysOp and wish to be included in the next release of 144BBS,
  102.    please contact the DownTown BBS with the applicable information. Leave your
  103.    board info in private e-mail addressed to User_ID "Sysop" with the subject
  104.    of "144BBS" or to the addresses below via Net or US Mail.
  105.  - Please do not send public messages to KEN SUKIMOTO on networks with your 
  106.    correction, new entry or comment. Although I will act upon the information,
  107.    many networks frown upon sending PUBLIC messages for this purpose.
  108.  - I can be reached by PRIVATE e-mail on several networks that offer this 
  109.    feature. The networks and my address on them are listed below.
